I Ditched Coffee Creamer for This Simple Upgrade ☕✨

For years, I used liquid coffee creamer every morning.

It tasted good, it was convenient, and I didn’t think much about it.

But when I started paying attention to ingredients, I realized my daily coffee habit wasn’t exactly the upgrade I thought it was. Many traditional creamers are packed with added sugars, processed ingredients, and things that don’t really add value to your day.

So I made a simple swap.

Now I use Amy Myers MD Double Chocolate Paleo Protein Powder in my coffee — and I actually look forward to it. ☕🍫 ⬇️Learn more here

Instead of starting my day with a sweet creamer, I’m adding:

✨ Protein to support my daily intake
✨ A rich chocolate flavor
✨ Ingredients I feel good about
✨ A simple way to make my morning coffee work harder

The best changes are often the small ones you repeat every day.

This is what PRISM is all about: cutting through the noise, looking closer at everyday choices, and finding options that make sense for your life.

No perfection. No complicated rules.

Just better decisions, one small upgrade at a time.

☕️Creamers can contain emulsifiers and thickening agents, which are added to ensure the mixture doesn’t separate. One thickening agent is 👎☣️carrageenan, derived from red seaweed. Some research suggests it may harm gastrointestinal health in particular. Carrageenan is also found in some types of ice cream, chocolate milk and plant-based milk.
Creamers can also contain 👎☣️titanium dioxide, a food additive that’s been banned in the EU. Some animal studies have linked titanium dioxide exposure to immunotoxicity, inflammation and neurotoxicity.
A single serving of creamer probably won’t hurt you, even if it’s got problematic ingredients. But if you regularly drink multiple cups of coffee with creamer every day, the amount of potentially problematic ingredients that you take in can quickly add up – especially if you enjoy a heavy pour.

🤔Daily consumption of highly processed store-bought liquid coffee creamers can carry
long-term health trade-offs, primarily related to metabolic strain, gut inflammation, and elevated kidney load. While a single splash is generally benign, routine use exposes you to a combination of synthetic additives, fast-absorbing sugars, and industrial oils. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Ingredient Type [2, 3, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15]
Common Names on Label-
👎Refined Sugars & Syrups:
Cane sugar, Corn syrup solids, High-fructose corn syrup
Insulin spikes & liver fat: Rapidly raises blood glucose. Frequent ingestion promotes insulin resistance and fat accumulation in the liver.

👎Highly Processed Oils:
Vegetable oil, Soybean oil, Canola oil, Hydrogenated oil
Systemic inflammation: Refined seed oils are rich in Omega-6 fatty acids, which can drive oxidative stress. Partially hydrogenated versions introduce hidden trans fats that negatively impact cardiovascular health.

👎Chemical Stabilizers
Dipotassium phosphate, Potassium citrate
Kidney & arterial stress: Used to prevent curdling. The body absorbs nearly 100% of these synthetic, inorganic phosphates. Overuse can strain the kidneys and accelerate calcium buildup in blood vessels.

👎Thickeners & Emulsifiers
Carrageenan, Mono- and diglycerides, Cellulose gum
Gut lining irritation: These give the liquid its rich "mouthfeel". However, compounds like carrageenan are noted by institutions like the Environmental Working Group (EWG) for triggering digestive distress, bloating, and low-grade intestinal irritation in sensitive individuals.

Navigating the Label
👎☣️• The "Zero Sugar" Trap: Sugar-free liquid creamers substitute corn syrup with artificial sweeteners like sucralose or acesulfame potassium. While they eliminate calories, research indicates they can still disrupt gut microbiota and trigger sweet cravings. [2, 6, 16, 17, 18] Hidden Dairy: If you are avoiding dairy due to a severe allergy, look out for sodium caseinate. It is a milk derivative used for texture in "non-dairy" liquids and can still trigger an immune response in highly sensitive dairy-allergic individuals. [9, 19, 20, 21, 22]
